Dissecting the crime scene at the Lorainne Motel where Dr. King was assassinated in Memphis, TN.

In 2008, I created a full-page infographic for the South Florida Sun Sentinel to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination at the Lorainne Motel in Memphis, TN.

Even though I’m a tad late, I still think it’s important to re-share this graphic for this year’s 50th anniversary.

I recreated the entire city block the motel was located in, based on old photographs and Google Maps for guidance. The 3D model was built and rendered in Lightwave, and the final graphic was created in Illustrator.

I did a lot of research to present the crime scene, pouring through old articles, sifting through the U.S. Department of Justice’s archives, and even reading An Act of State and Orders to Kill by William Pepper in order to compile as accurate a picture as possible.
